ENRICO TESTA GUITARIST, HARMONICA PLAYER

I was born in Genoa on February 7, 1964 …

One day, when I was in my junior high school, I was intrigued by my sister who had asked a guitar as a present for her birthday and she was the one who first taught me to play  “The Sun Song” (La canzone del sole) of Lucio Battisti...from that moment  I fell in love with this instrument. Later on I met the guitarist Armando Corsi (first lesson September 24, 1982) I still keep my exercise-book...he made me discover new worlds...fusion...jazz...altered chords... Then I met the pianist singer and composer Vladi Tosetto  who allowed me play with him at the legendary “G.B.”club, giving me the opportunity to learn something new every night... it really was a magical period... In 1985 I started to teach guitar, music theory and solfeggio and at the Vanguard School of Armando Corsi and Gian Siano where I worked for five years

But my musical path had to become richer...for this reason I decided to start studying classical guitar with Maestro Bruno Bertone, a person of great intelligence whose musical and human contribution was really precious to me... From 1993 to 2000 I devoted myself to classical guitar, I took all the exams as an external candidate at the Academy of Music up to my long-waited “Diploma in Classical Guitar”.

After the diploma I started to cooperate with the very fast guitarist Marco Galvagno with whom I played for two years, then I undertook a project with the guitarist composer Giangi Sainato with whom I still form a sophisticated duo proposing a varied repertoire ranging from jazz to South American music to flamenco without neglecting the acoustic rearrangement of many rock-pop songs. During these formative years I also devoted myself  to the composition of  mostly instrumental pieces. I wrote the music for the stage show “Carteggio” directed by Fabrizio Giacomazzi and I participated in the performance of musics written by Andrea Nicolini for the comedy “Chi ha paura di Virginia Woolf” performed by the repertory company of the Teatro Stabile in Genoa. My teaching experience proceeded with 4 years of cooperation in the Academy of Music in Genoa where I taught guitar. One night I was struck by the timbre of a very small instrument...small but with a great potential...it was a chromatic harmonica... 3 chromatic octaves of mellow sounds to express myself ...from that night on, the harmonica entered my life, every single day. I am currently preparing a method for chromatic harmonica used in jazz phrasing. Today I have just completed my 2nd year of the triennial specialization in Jazz at the Music Academy of La Spezia with maestro Alessandro Fabbri (www.alessandrofabbri.net), with whom I can indulge in improvising either on my dear guitar or on my beloved harmonica... I have recently started to work with Fabrizio Casalino (www.fabriziocasalino.it) our aim is to propose a sophisticated repertoire of popular brasilian music with the use of guitar, voice, percussion and chromatic harmonica..
